All week, I have anxiously waited for Friday to come and finally, it’s here (happy dance!). For some of us the weekend might be the hardest part of the week because not knowing what to wear is a BIG deal. I have a whole lot of plans lined up, right from the Afrojack concert tonight to my best friend’s bachelorette party. All you happy music lovers, don’t worry I haven’t forgotten you. The Nh7 Weekender is back for the 4th time this year and it only gets better. Weekends are meant for jazzing up and here’s what you can wear.

The Bachelorette

Wedding season is back and who isn’t excited? Lots of boozy nights coming your way (winks)! It’s my best friend’s bachelorette this weekend and choosing the best party outfit for a girl’s night out is the hardest decision I have had to make. So here’s where I got my inspiration from. I opted for a rise and fall sheer black dress with a statement necklace and chunky peep-toe heels. Also since the party is more like a 5 star hotel club night thing, this outfit works perfect! Aww! We’ve missed Jacqueline Fernandez! She’s been a bit MIA, shooting her new movie Roy with Ranbir Kapoor. I was so happy when I found these pictures of her in my inbox because really, we’ve missed looking at all the super fashionable clothes she tends to wear. Alia Bhatt took a break from her Shandaar shoot to launch the cover of Femina at Olive last evening. We’ve noticed a big change in the magazine and their fashion features have been blowing our minds with every issue. Alia made it to their latest cover and wore something we never thought she could pull off, on it. In keeping with the dark theme of the cover, Bhatt threw on a black outfit for the event.

In a black outfit from 431-88 by Shweta Kapoor, she accessorised with yellow and black ankle strap sandals from River Island (LOVE!), a belt from Michael Kors and a Manish Arora ring. She’d clipped her hair back and left her makeup very neutral and dewy.

Waist up, she looks good, but.. we’re not feeling the belt. There are multiple things she could have done with the look. Left it belt-less, maybe added a skinny belt if she really wanted it and even contrasted the look with a coloured belt. The thick belt doesn’t seem to be complementing her look.

What makes something a “statement” and how do you get your hands on it? After years of working in the fashion industry and hours of observation, I’ve finally found a fragment of the answer. Of course nailing this technique might take years, but we might as well have something to start with, right? Before I list down a few things you can buy and use to create a statement, let me explain what I mean by the word. A statement piece is simply something you can throw on to your look thereby transforming it to automatically standout in a crowd. Simple? Don’t stress, it gets easier, I promise. Here are a few things you can try, let’s start with my favourite…

P.S. And when I say “No matter where you go” I don’t mean to the supermarket or gym! None of these options would work there!

1. An Eye-Widening Jacket

What do I mean by eye-widening? Well, exactly that. This jacket isn’t one of those basic blazers you wear to match your outfit. And no, this jacket isn’t nude, tan or black. This one is bright, it’s a bit loud and if your personality can carry it off, it’s something your wardrobe needs.

Things To Remember:

1. Whenever you’re trying to use on of these, remember to keep the rest of your outfit on a very subtle side. Nothing to match your statement or too bright. Just a simple black, white, beige and anything neutral is what’s required.

3. When it comes to jewellery, you can even try a pair of statement earrings. Just make sure it’s something on the top half of your body and somewhere that draws attention.
